Vestibular physical therapy
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a common, yet not well known, vestibular disorder, caused by calcium carbonate crystals (otoconia) freely floating in fluid in your semi-circular canals within your inner ear. Changing positions of your head will cause momentary but intense vertigo.
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE? Like the room is spinning rapidly although you are not moving at all. Usually lasts 1-2 minutes in duration after you've moved your head or body.
HOW IS IT EVALUATED & TREATED? A trained physical therapist with this vestibular speciality will assess your vestibular system by asking questions and looking at the movement of your eyes. If it is determined that you have BPPV, treatment is fairly quick, albeit slightly uncomfortable. There is a saying in vestibular therapy: "In order to make you better, I first have to make you dizzy" so my apologies in advance but luckily, there IS a solution to BPPV!
OTHER VESTIBULAR & BALANCE DISORDERS: There are numerous diagnoses that can cause dizziness or imbalance. Click on the Learn More link below. At the moment, I am only seeing BPPV patients within my vestibular therapy practice. Please contact me to discuss your symptoms to see I can help you.
